January 30, 2025
Hello Dexter Families!
January felt simultaneously lengthy and fleeting. We enjoyed several delightful snow days, with students excited to experience the winter wonderland. To prioritize the safety of our students and staff, we implemented a delay and canceled for a remote learning day. A heartfelt thank you to Anna Chaney and everyone who supports Wacky Wednesday; the students had an incredible time.
Important School Activities This month, our elementary school began ACCESS testing to assess our students' progress in learning English. This evaluation is essential for measuring English proficiency. Additionally, we conducted a school board workshop meeting regarding new constructions, which was productive, and valuable information was exchanged. You can view school board meetings on YouTube.
Stay Connected Don't forget to download the PowerSchool app to stay updated on your children's attendance and grades. Maintaining communication with the school is crucial for your students' success. Our teachers regularly send home grade reports and notifications about missing assignments. Thank you for helping to strengthen the connection between home and school.
Weather and Clothing The weather has been quite chilly lately. Please ensure that students bring hoodies or jackets. If temperatures remain above freezing, students will have the opportunity to enjoy their much-needed outdoor recess. We also have several hoodies, sweaters, and jackets in the lost and found, so feel free to stop by and check for any missing warm clothing.
Upcoming Events Save the date for the Daddy-Daughter and Mother-Son Dance on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun and create wonderful memories together.
Safety Assurance We want to reassure our parents and community that the safety of our students is a top priority at Dexter Elementary School. All visitors, including law enforcement, must enter through and check in at the front office. We take student safety seriously and are dedicated to maintaining a secure environment. Students are safe at school! We understand the community's concerns regarding recent changes in U.S. Department of Homeland Security and federal immigration enforcement policies. Please rest assured that every child, regardless of their immigration status, is welcome in our schools. Our district does not collect any data regarding the immigration status of students and their families, and we do not provide this information to law enforcement. Our social worker and counselor are available to support students and the community if you feel stressed or fearful due to recent federal changes. Our students are SAFE!
Volunteer Opportunities We are always in search of enthusiastic volunteers to assist with various school activities and events. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or help with special events, your involvement makes a significant difference. Please contact the school office if you're interested in volunteering. A special thanks to Teresa Maldonado for her support in opening the Round Building for parents and the community to gather necessary items after the recent floods. We appreciate your time and dedication.
Healthy Habits As we navigate through the winter months, we encourage everyone to practice good hygiene to keep our community healthy. Regular handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes are simple yet effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Let's work together to maintain a healthy and vibrant school environment! Remember your hoodie and jackets each day. Students attend recess if temperatures are above freezing. Also, check the lost and found for warm weather items that you may be missing. It is located at the front of the school.
Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement in our school community. Let's make the upcoming month a memorable one for all our students and families!
