2021 Regular Local Election


Early voting for the 2021 Regular Local Election will be held Tuesday November 2 with early voting beginning Tuesday October 5.  Dexter Schools will have two items on the ballot.

Capital Improvements (SB-9) – This is question is on the ballot every six years and was last approved in 2016.  The Capital Improvement question, sometimes referred to as the 2-mill levy, asks residents of the school district to approve a property tax of $2.00 on each $1,000 of net taxable value on property within the Dexter school district.  Some examples of how the district may use the tax revenue are providing equipment or furnishing school buildings, maintenance equipment and activity buses and vehicles.  The complete resolution passed by the school board may be found here.

School Board Election – Dexter’s Board of Education has five members.  Three of those positions are up for election this year.  Information may be found here.

Re-entry Plan
Per the regulations outlined in the American Rescue Plan Act, the U.S. Department of Education requires all schools to post and receive comment on a plan for Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services.  Below is the link to the re-entry plan for Dexter Consolidated Schools.  If you have any comments regarding this plan, please email them to superintendent@dexterdemons.org.

Dear Parents and Community Members,

I hope the month of October is treating you well.  It finally feels like a regular Fall Semester!  Thank you for everyone's cooperation while we continue to tread through uncharted waters.  Your diligence and understanding have helped us move forward with minor disruptions in our school activities and daily operations.  I urge you to continue to support our students wearing masks while in school buildings and during bus transportation.  Our students are doing a great job during their part while at school!  We do not know the future of this variant, so we will continue to follow the same procedures for identifying and protecting any cross-contamination.  I understand our Public Education Tool Kit rules and procedures are not very clear and, at times, do not align with CDC workforce guidelines.  Our guidelines are specific school operating procedures.  We have streamlined our process to be as flexible as we can while maintaining the safety of all.  Thank you again for your cooperation.


I want to reach out and inform parents that the new Social Studies Standards public hearing will be on November 12, 2021.  2009 was the last time standards were revised.  It is in much need of revision, but we have some concerns about the timelines of implementation. Typically, when State Public Education Dept. authorizes a review and adoption of new content standards, districts are provided opportunities for input.   Committees are made up of school professionals to develop and update current curriculum standards.  With distractions last semester and summer, not all districts were given opportunities to be included in this process.  Most of the time, revisions are no big deal, and there is never too much concern from communities about changes.  This revision to Social Studies draws a lot of attention and amplifies many sensitive personal beliefs.  The DCS School Board wanted me to provide everyone with opportunities to review and provide input if you wish.  This letter will provide you with a link to the proposed standards and directions for you to submit concerns or support in writings directly to PED before November 12.  I strongly encourage everyone to take a moment and review standards about their child's grade level.  If you have questions, please reach out to building principals and or myself.  In my 24 years of education have never seen such a dramatic change in the school curriculum with such little input from schools and communities.  We will do our best to protect the best interest of students and provide diligent effort in safeguarding the beliefs and values of the community.
