Title III

In January of 2016, Dexter students took the ACCESS for ELLS® English Language Proficiency Assessment—Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English from State to State for English Language Learners.  This assessment determines ELL student’s English language skills in the area of listening, speaking, reading and writing, a comprehension score (listening and reading scores combined) and an overall score.  This assessment identifies language skills in both social and academic English.  Social language is used to communicate for everyday purposes.  Academic language is used to communicate in the content of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.  If a student received an overall score of 5.0 or better they are deemed to be proficient in English.  The following students scored proficient:  Guadalupe Herrera-Tenorio, 3rd grade; Alessandra Carrillo, 4th grade; Hugo Soria, 7th grade; Esmeralda Chavez, 8th grade; Jose Herrera, 10th grade; Cynthia Martinez, 10th grade; Luis Miramontes, 11th grade and Kitsy Cazares, graduate.  These students were recognized at the September Dexter School Board Meeting for their accomplishment.  Congratulations to them all.
